2024 Greenwood Lake Centennial Weekend included the excavation and reveal of the 1974 Time Capsule that was buried outside the old Fire House, now named the Community Center, on Waterstone Road. Although the contents of the concrete crypt were found in several inches of water that had seeped into it, the contents were found wrapped in paper bags and in aluminum foil and then gathered into smaller groups and placed into plastic bags. Many of the items will require additional care and several weeks in a commercial freezer to allow the delicate separation of the water layers from the contents. Later this year, all of the restored items will be on display at the Greenwood Lake Library for the public to examine.
