NOTE: I’m writing and publishing this around 18 months after the original lesson! A combination of finishing my degree, lots of travelling and starting a family has meant that flying took a back seat. Now my son is almost 8 months old, I’ve got renewed motivation to complete my PPL to enable us to go on some family trips! This lesson / flight comes just over 5 months after my last in May. This wasn’t a lesson per-se, more of a flight to Coventry where my Grandparents had booked out the café above Coventry flying school to host their 60th wedding anniversary! I decided that since it was at an airfield, why not arrive in style :p Before setting course for Coventry, I did a couple of circuits to brush up on my landings before doing it in front of most of my family! The idea was to take my Grandad on a short flight, since he was my biggest inspiration to start my PPL, being in the RAF and holding a PPL himself around 20-30 years ago. However, on arrival things didn’t go to plan and he wasn’t feeling well. Instead I ended up taking my Grandma, Uncle and 2 Cousins over 2 separate flights to see the local area. I haven’t included these in the footage as they’re not really relevant towards my PPL. Highlights 11:10 – Take off 16:40 – Touch & Go #1 23:08 – Touch & Go #2 25:00 – Setting route to Coventry 30:15 – Change frequency to Coventry 44:40 – Landing @ Coventry I didn’t have any more lessons planned after this, since we had a big trip to Australia booked for December 2017 / January 2018 where we toured the east coast of Australia in a camper. I also managed to get some flying in, hiring a Cessna 172 and flying from Gympie to Fraser Island, landing at Orchid Beach (YORC), which was amazing! I’m filming using a GoPro Hero4 with suction mount and a special adaptor to capture the headset and ATC audio. If anyone would like any more info on the set up – just drop me a comment below!
