This is a review of The Mindscapes Tarot written and illustrated by John A. Rice. The deck was published by Hay House in 2025. This review discusses the deck, the accompanying guidebook and goes through the deck card by card. Tarotists can use this review to see if The Mindscapes Tarot is one that would be of interest for their collection and use. John A. Rice is an accomplished artist, writer, and actor. His artistic medium is oil pastel, which achieves a rich, impressionist style of illustration. His mission statement is “to foster healing, introspection and creativity through otherworldly art – empowering the internal world so that we can enrich our outer world”. All the cards are landscapes, which help tap into the intuition by placing the reader in the landscape where the reader can participate in the empathy of the scene. In addition to the wonderfully informative guidebook to the Mindscapes Tarot, John is also a screenwriter. You can find out more about his art and his exhibition schedule at www.jarstudionyc.com The deck has 80 cards with 24 major arcana and 56 minor arcana divided into four suits – branches, tides, spires and stones. The court cards are page, knight, queen and king. The cards are 2 ¾ x 4 ¾ or roughly 7 x 12 cm. The kit comes with 199-page guidebook, that has keywords, astrological attributions, a list of symbols, a 1-2 paragraph definition for each card, and an action to take in response for every card. Each suit has its own progression through a landscape. You can find this deck at www.hayhouse.com or better yet, your favorite new-age bookstore. This video is followed by a “for whoever needs this” reading; see zz to see how the cards are used and if they resonate with you. 0:00 Intro 4:35 The Cards 14:22 Roses and Thorns
