In this MetLiveArts Digital Premiere, celebrated classical violinist Leila Josefowicz performs two massive works for solo violin: Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D Minor, staged among masterpieces by Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko, and a new work by Matthias Pintscher, written specifically for Josefowicz and commissioned by artist George Condo, presented in The Met’s sixteenth-century Spanish courtyard, the Vélez Blanco Patio. This program is made possible by The Howard & Sarah D. Solomon Foundation and the Consulate General of Canada in New York, and is presented in partnership with George Condo. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is on the island known as Mannahatta—now called Manhattan—in Lenapehoking, the homeland of the Lenape people.
