This BEFORE video was filmed in March of 2024 To skip to the second activation of the railroad crossing signals, go to 4:02. This was the last railroad crossing that MTS owned where a mechanical bell existed that rung continuously with the exception of Marshall Ave and Petree St in El Cajon where that hybrid mechanical bell only rung continuously if a freight train passed by there which could be a thing in the past now. Every 15 minutes daily, the bell rings for passing orange line trolleys and for freight trains on rare occasions once every 2 to 4 weeks in the middle of the night, it activated then too during this time, but now, I don't know if freight trains come through here anymore. The other bell across the tracks is a newer, but now old GS type 2 electronic bell that also used to have a Safetran Hybrid mechanical bell back then. In this video, this bell was ringing a lot for a long time, much longer than it usually does and it was because the trolleys were going very slow and some even came to a stop at this crossing before going. The reason for that was because on January 22, 2024, San Diego had a once in a 100 year El Nino storm with torrential heavy rain that went on for a long time and it caused the flood channel underneath me to overflow and cause a raging river on the road and also wiped out the train tracks too. As a result, these tracks were closed for over 2 months and this crossing wasn't used for that long either so the bell definitely got a lot of rest during that time. Then when it finally reopened, that's when the crossing signals were getting quite a workout for these slow moving trains and this went on for several weeks including in this video as well, but now trolleys are moving at normal speed again. Now, I call this a BEFORE video because a year and six months after I did this video in September 2025, this hybrid mechanical bell has died and I found this out from one of @crazyrailfan 's short videos showing it not ringing. It has been replaced with a GS type 3 electronic bell and my AFTER video shows it below. Here is @crazyrailfan 's short video of when this bell died. • Welp… that sucks #train #railroad #bell Here is my AFTER video of the new GS type 3 electronic bell that is there now. • (AFTER) New Electronic Bell At MTS #railro...
