CARLISLE, Ohio (WKRC) - Skylar Richardson, the teen mother who stood trial accused of killing and burying her newborn, was sentenced to time served, but the outcome could have been much different. That’s one of the things we’re learning as Scott and Kim Richardson break their silence to CBS’ “48 Hours.” The Richardsons claim Skylar was offered a plea deal and the 20-year-old considered taking it. Scott and Kim say prosecutors offered to take the aggravated murder charge off the table if Skylar pleaded to the rest of the charges. In the end, Richardson was found guilty of one charge: gross abuse of a corpse. “She was tempted,” said Kim, referring to the plea deal. "She’s like, I’ve been dealt so many bad hands, this is probably the best option I’m going to get. Show me where it’s gone right so far.” Local 12 reached out to the Warren County prosecutor to confirm that deal, but David Fornshell responded via email saying he does not comment on plea discussions. “48 Hours” followed Skylar and her family for a year as Skylar awaited her trial. During that time, she worked for her defense attorney in his law office. Skylar’s parents say Skylar’s eating disorder may be the reason why they missed the signs of her pregnancy. "I think she didn't want to disappoint us. She obviously was afraid to tell us why. We don't really know. We missed everything,” said the Richardsons. The remains of Richardson’s child, Annabelle, were buried on Thursday. That burial was mandated by the judge. “48 Hours” will air the show on Local 12 on Saturday at 10 p.m.
