Part 25 - THE FIRST RIDE

I have finished! It has taken 6 months but I am ready for my first ride. This is always a nervous time for me and even though it is my 3rd complete rebuild I feel the same. I have enjoyed renovating this 1150GS even though, as you have seen, I hit many problems. They are all behind me now and soon forgotten. The ride is just pure GS quality as if it has only just left the factory, not 19 years ago. Still a little too high for me, I am on the balls of my feet so not as comfortable as I like, having an RT has spoilt me for that. I read this week that men lose an inch in height between 40 and 70, there I was telling everyone I was a 30" inside leg and I am now a 29"...no wonder I had issues. But it is the same height on paper as the latest GS which is fine for me. The BMW salesman corrects me and explains that these older bikes had wider seats...aha so that is the problem. I loved riding this GS so much, apart from the height, I have ordered a new 1250GS to replace my RT. So sadly this beautiful bike is up for sale in the next few weeks.
