Did you know Little India wasn’t originally planned as an Indian enclave? 🇮🇳✨ Long before it became one of Singapore’s most vibrant heritage districts, this area was simply known as Serangoon. In the mid-1800s, Indian migrants, traders and labourers began settling along Serangoon Road, gradually shaping the district into a cultural and commercial hub. Once associated with cattle trading and brick kilns, the area evolved into a bustling neighbourhood of spice shops, textile stores and goldsmiths, anchored by temples and mosques. By the early 20th century, Little India was firmly established as the heart of Singapore’s Indian community. Landmarks such as the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple, the Former House of Tan Teng Niah and Tekka Centre remain key anchors, while colourful shophouses and intricate facades reflect its rich architectural heritage. Today, Little India is especially vibrant during Deepavali and Thaipusam, but beyond the festivals, it remains a living neighbourhood where culture, commerce and community continue to thrive. 📍 Little India / Serangoon Road — where heritage lives on 🔔 Like, comment & subscribe for more hidden Singapore stories 🇸🇬📜 Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/GWFQGvUtgdaeD...
