Pop over to my blog and you will find an article made of words and pictures on this very subject. With plenty of full size images (all new macro stuff that I haven't published elsewhere) demonstrating the power of retouching. It can be found by clicking on this blue writing... https://www.allanwallsphotography.com... Focus stacking is already complicated enough, don't you think? So why would I want to suggest that you watch this obscenely long video and follows every step in the recommended workflow? Because it works, and it works well. Retouching isn't that useful for the very basic stacking programs, because you don't really have much control over the process anyway, but in the more powerful and versatile programs we can usual select the best stacking algorithm for the job. But when we are looking for the very best quality images, we should be using both algorithms and blending the desirable elements from both (or all) outputs. This is retouching. The video is long and detailed, but the process is also that way and there are no shortcuts. I don't discuss or introduce much new gear today, but if you are not using a tablet for your editing, you are going to want to use one for retouching - This involves a lot of very finely detailed work - a pen really helps. I recommend the Intuos Pro from Wacom. https://amzn.to/3xVnSc9 The link is an Amazon Affiliate link, so if you end up buying one of these, using this link, I get a a small commission. But I don't recommend anything I don't own and like, so click with confidence. What do you mean you aren't on Discord!? I thought all the really cool people were.
