Name: Sandra Suresh Graduation: B.com Pg: MBA Currently pursuing MBA in Jamia Millia Islamia Question: How did you prepare for 1st paper? This paper is highly scoring for management students as there are questions on Quantitative aptitude, Logical Reasoning and English which is similar to the MBA entrance test given by students. Topics on Research and Teaching aptitude were covered from Truman’s UGC NET/SLET General Paper I. Managing time efficiently is the key to success in this paper. Hence I practiced more mock tests by keeping a check on my time. Question: How did you prepare for 2nd paper? I dint have a separate preparation strategies for paper 2 and paper 3 since I found most of the topics in management syllabus for both papers similar. Some important topics and the books I preferred for the same:- Organisation Behavior- Stephen Robbins Human Resource Management – Gary Dessler Marketing Management- Philip Kotler Managerial Economics- H L Ahuja Financial Management – ND Vohra These books helped me understand the key concepts given in the syllabus. Question: How did you prepare for 3rd paper? Once I had covered the important topics, I referred to Trueman guide for management paper 2 and 3 towards the last two weeks to revise all the topics thoroughly. The guide I believe should be used only for revising once the concepts are clear from books. Question: Did you do mock tests, usage of e-media and note making? I solved mock tests available on Paper one online to keep a check on time. I began doing so two weeks prior to the exam by solving at least one paper every day so as to practice on managing the time for PAPER 1. R Gupta’s Book on Previous year Solved Question papers of Paper 1, 2 and 3 in Management helped me get an idea of topics that were frequently repeated. I made notes of these topics and revised them thoroughly before exams. Question: How many months you devoted for this and how many hours a day? I devoted a period of one and a half months for the preparation. The number of hours should be decided on each students need. Since I gave the paper while I was in my first year of MBA, most of the subject topics where fresh on my mind and hence required devoting only 2-3 hours a day towards specific preparation. Question: Your message for JRF aspirants? All that JRF demands is to have a strong grip on your subject. Have good clarity on base concepts through books and only then move on to comprehensive guides. Remember Paper 1 is similar to most of the MBA entrance test with which you are familiar. So focus more on Paper 2 and 3 and keep revising confusing topics like the different theories of motivation in Organisation Behavior and their founder’s names. And finally have a positive attitude and never give up.
