A tragic accident on 13th March 2025 at Amrapali Chaar Rasta, Karelibag, Vadodara, has shocked the city. A speeding car, driven by 20-year-old Rakshit Chaurasia, crashed into a scooter, leading to the death of a woman and serious injuries to three others, including two minors. What Happened? Rakshit, a law student from Varanasi studying in Vadodara, was reportedly driving under the influence when the accident occurred. The car belonged to his friend, Pranshu Chauhan. A viral video showed the badly damaged bonnet of the car. In the footage, Pranshu was seen trying to get out while Rakshit attempted to stop him. Pranshu distanced himself from the incident, saying, “This guy is mad, I am not involved, he was driving.” Eyewitnesses were further angered when Rakshit got out of the car and shouted, "One more round!" as if the accident was a game. He also repeatedly shouted "Om Namah Shivaay" and a girl’s name, "Nikita." Victims and Investigation The deceased victim was identified as Hemaliben Patel, while three others were hospitalized with serious injuries. The police confirmed that three other vehicles were also affected in the accident. Rakshit initially denied being drunk and claimed his car hit a pothole while trying to overtake a two-wheeler. He also said the airbags blocked his vision, leading to the accident. However, after police testing, it was confirmed that he had consumed bhaang (cannabis). He was arrested, and the investigation is still ongoing. Past Incident and Public Reaction This is not the first time Rakshit has had trouble with the law. Less than a month ago, he and his friends were taken to the police station for causing a disturbance at a party in Vadodara’s Fatehgunj area. They had threatened a lawyer who complained about the noise but were let off after writing an apology. The incident has sparked anger among people, with many demanding stricter punishment for reckless driving. It has also raised concerns about weak enforcement of traffic laws. Many are comparing this case to the Pune accident, where a 17-year-old who killed people in a crash was given the punishment of writing an essay. People are calling for stricter action to prevent such accidents in the future. What are your thoughts on this?
