There are glacier days… and then there’s Hubbard Glacier. On my 22-day Alaska cruise aboard the Ruby Princess, I booked the Hubbard Glacier & Wilderness Exploration excursion as a solo traveler — a small boat experience that allowed us to leave the ship and get dramatically closer to the face of North America’s largest tidewater glacier. Was it expensive? Yes. Was it worth it? I break that down in this video. Hubbard Glacier is: • 76 miles long • 7 miles wide • Approximately 600 feet tall (with 350 feet above the waterline) • Advancing — unlike many other Alaska glaciers • And the ice at its face fell as snow up to 500 years ago We witnessed active calving, navigated through floating ice, and even stopped by a sea lion colony on our way back to the ship. I’ll also share: • What it’s like to transfer from the ship to the excursion boat • How close the smaller vessel actually gets • Whether the main ship views are enough • And how the rest of the scenic cruising day unfolded onboard If you’re planning an Alaska cruise and wondering whether to splurge on this excursion, this video will help you decide. 🚢 Ship: Ruby Princess 📍 Location: Hubbard Glacier, Alaska 🧊 Excursion: Hubbard Glacier & Wilderness Exploration 🎥 Equipment Used iPhone 15 Pro Max — https://amzn.to/48Z7oWs Insta360 X4 (newest model) — https://amzn.to/3WlUgn3 DJI Osmo 3 (latest model) — https://amzn.to/3W3v9Fj 🎬 Sony FX30 — https://amzn.to/3W4HxVw 💬 Let’s Connect If you enjoy thoughtful cruise content, scenic Alaska ports, and honest breakdowns of excursions — consider subscribing.
