Haitian Community Reacts to TPS Termination

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced it will terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals on February 3, 2026, a move that could uproot tens of thousands of families across the United States. Currently, more than 330,000 Haitians live and work legally in the U.S. under TPS protections. Nationwide, there are 1.3 million TPS holders, and nearly a third reside in Florida—home to one of the largest Haitian communities in the country. Community leaders say the decision ignores the harsh realities in Haiti, where conditions remain dire. Pastor Elites Dalger, who ministers to a large Haitian congregation in South Florida, described the announcement as devastating.
