Fire Attack and Primary Search | Virginia Beach Fire Academy Training Simulation

Welcome to the TRFA 156, where we train to become firefighters for the Virginia Beach Fire Department. In this video, we will show you how firefighters move inside a fire structure during a primary search and fire attack. These are required skills for a Firefighter I and II in the VBFD. In the first part of the video, you will see us setting up a hose lay and conducting a front porch drill before moving inside. Once inside, we were stopped by Fire Training Instructor Nena Myers who corrected our technique. In the second part of the video, you will see her demonstrate the proper VBFD Primary Search and pacing for it. Primary search is conducted by the second firefighter with the third firefighter, who is usually designated as the driver pump operator. The goal is to advance the hoseline further into the fire as fast as possible. In the third part of the video, you can see Recruit Buckner learning how to operate the hose bale for a primary attack inside the structure. We filmed this simulation with a GoPro Hero4 Session and a helmet-mounted camera, which worked perfectly for capturing the action.
