This is a step-by-step instructional video of how to change the hydraulic clutch fluid on a 2014-2016 KTM 1290 Super Duke R. The same (or similar) procedure can be followed for a variety of year/make/model motorcycles. This procedure should be performed as a part of your regular maintenance intervals or at minimum once every 2 years. For motorcycles in our personal fleet, we bleed the clutch at the beginning of every riding season. It’s also a good idea to bleed your brakes if the lever begins to feel spongy, you notice a wandering engagement point, or the fluid becomes dark/dirty looking. There is no mileage interval for changing the clutch fluid on a KTM 1290 Super Duke R. The recommended service schedule is based on time. This is because clutch fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere over time. The degradation of the fluid is primarily due to this moisture absorption rather than the number of miles ridden. See below for the list of required tools and supplies to complete this job.
