The Litanies is the third of his 'three organ pieces'. It was completed on the Feast of the Assumption in 1937, and dedicatee Virginie Schildge-Bianchini premièred the piece later in May in the United States. It was published in 1939 by Alphonse Leduc. In 1995 the composer's brother Olivier published a two-piano version. Today, the piece is indubitably the most famous work of the composer. The manuscript is available from the Jehan Alain Foundation. This rendition is played by Jehan Alain's sister Marie-Claire at the organ of the Hofkirche in Luzern, Switzerland.
