Inbound: • Stevenson Expressway Inbound (I-55 NB), I-... **Best viewed in 1080p60 or 720p60 Road trip outbound on the Stevenson Expressway from Lake Shore Drive in Chicago's Near South Side to the Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355) in the hills and woods of SE DuPage County. We start at Lake Shore Drive by you guessed it, Lake Michigan, and pass over and under many of Chicago's main north-south roads like Michigan Avenue and State Street along with CTA's Green and Red Lines. Then we fly under the mighty Dan Ryan Expressway and go up over Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood and follow the Chicago Sanitary & Ship Canal into Chicago's Southwest Side by Midway Airport. After Harlem Ave, we cross the CSSC and pass between several stone quarries, the Des Plaines River, and MWRD's (Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago) McCook Reservoir and biosolids drying beds. We finish crossing the valley by crossing the Des Plaines River and over several railroad tracks and industrial areas before jumping into the hills and woods. From that point, the hills and woods continue until we reach I-355 when it becomes more like a prairie. I have some fond memories on this road as it has been one of my favorites since I was little. Seeing the Chicago Skyline get bigger (or in this case smaller) as we got closer (or further) to/from the city. Given where I live now this is my go-to expressway to Chicago. Out of the Chicago Expressways, this one was one of the last built since it was more difficult to build given the unstable soils in the area, the tight space between the quarries, reservoir, and river, and the proximity of the Sanitary & Ship Canal (protected area and has historical status), and the numerous railroad tracks and power lines. But that is one of the fun parts of driving on this road! (When it isn't slow of course haha) Enjoy the ride!
