Follow me on Instagram @volkswizard.co.uk THE LABOUR RATE PER HOUR WORKS OUT AT £333 NOT £366 AS STATED IN THE VIDEO, SORRY. It’s illegal for manufacturers to insist you use main dealers for servicing to maintain warranty, more info here; https://www.whocanfixmycar.com/advice... In this video I explain to you how a main dealer's quotation for an oil change on my Mk8 Golf GTI Clubsport equates to a labour rate of around £333 per hour. I show you how I worked this out and take you through exactly what this job consists of which also serves as a detailed DIY guide. A lot of people are mentioning service plans in the comments, I didn't get offered one but probably wouldn't have taken it anyway. They do raise the question as to why 2 services (oil change and oil change and pollen filter) cost about the same as what I was quoted for just an oil change. Is it like train tickets? Don't pay in advance and you have to pay more? Then there is fixed price servicing for cars 3-15 years of age which lists an oil change as £184. Why should there be any difference based on vehicle age for how much an oil change should cost? Could it be because owners incorrectly think they have to use a main dealer for the first 3 years to maintain the warranty and are therefore a captive market that can be exploited? The main dealer will also offer to wash your car but as many people are aware this usually results in damaging the paint so is often rejected by customers. You can also book a courtesy car but this often results in a very long wait. An alternative is collection and delivery but I don't want people driving my car unnecessarily, especially with COVID risk. You can probably get free tea and coffee while you wait but this will be the most expensive 'free' drink you'll ever have. If you go go for a while-u-wait service, I suspect they will keep you waiting a lot longer than 36 mins so you don't question the hefty labour cost, a waste of your precious time. If you reject any or all of these additional services you don't get money off so I don't think it's necessary to add a value to them here.
