In this #Ballet #Brain #Body Break, I explore why ballet is excellent for alleviating #depression and #anxiety. In my #clinical practice, I found that depressed patients who take antidepressant medication and engage in physical exercise that also promotes mindfulness and repetitive #movements, such as yoga, improve a lot more than patients who take the medication alone. Ballet is an excellent, graceful movement to beautiful #music, which counteracts stress, decreases cortisol, stimulates #neuroplasticity, and, through the body-brain communication, decreases the symptoms of depression. I dance a brief ballet for health and happiness to beautiful piano ballet music. This presentation is a blend of performing arts and biomedical science: neuroscience and psychiatry.
