Céilí Afro Dabke Ukraine '25 || Catherine Young Dance & Backstage Theatre

Catherine Young Dance's Céilí Afro Dabke Ukraine was delivered in partnership with Backstage Theatre in May 2025 as part of Backstage's 30 year celebrations. The event brought audiences together for an evening of music, dance, and multicultural celebration as part of the organisation’s 30th anniversary programme. Following the success of a previous world music céilí, the performance showcased global dance traditions including Palestinian Dabke, Afro-Brazilian, West African, and Ukrainian folk dance, before finishing with traditional Irish Céilí dancing. The free, inclusive event welcomed people of all backgrounds to dance, try new styles, or enjoy the atmosphere. Live music was performed by Martin Scharer, Brian Fleming, Aindrias De Staic, Aisling Lyons, Kieran Fitzpatrick, Hendrick, Nico Severin, and Yershovy Sisters, alongside guest musicians Noel Carberry and friends. Dance performances featured Dashia Avieieva, Amir Sabra, Laura Lundy, and Tatiana Santos. The evening concluded with a free traditional session at Tally-Ho Bar, where musicians and attendees continued the celebration together.
