Reaching 50 million nanostores: The number of cities that count over 10 million people is increasing rapidly, with most of these cities located in the developing world. Not only do these cities count very large populations, but also they have an unprecented population density and huge differences between the rich and poor. All this is reflected in the retail landscape. For instance, Mexico City has several hundred thousands of stores. In this talk, Jan Fransoo will outline the major challenges of this new field of research, and explain how we are taking the lead in defining this new research field. sSCF: The Student Supply Chain Forum is a platform for exchanging needs, knowledge, and experiences in the field of Supply Chain Management between students, researchers, and companies.
