We all know its spring when dicentras (commonly known as bleeding hearts), appear. David at Overdevest Nurseries compares three types, two that hail from a species native to Asia and Dicentra 'Luxuriant' which is considered a hybrid derived from US native species. Dicentra spectabilis (the old-fashioned bleeding heart) and its variant Dicentra 'Valentine' naturally go dormant in summer, whereas this native hybrid 'Luxuriant' will keep on growing and flowering. In this video, David explains why this is so, and how you can ensure that it keeps on flowering with its light pink nodding, heart shaped flowers.
