Qadir's father, Sardar Sarwan Singh, played instruments and sang songs with such noted artists as Ustad Yamla Jatt. He was a professional Banjo player and enjoyed the company of such musicians regularly. Brought up in such a musical environment, Kuldip Qadir was highly influenced by his father's passion. Qadir was a natural singer as a child and had a keen interest in all sorts of instruments. Qadir taught himself how to play many instruments such as the harmonium, banjo, flute, sitar, harmonica. He also followed his idol Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's music very closely. During his school years, Qadir competed in many musical competitions and won many. He started his career at a very early age. He didn't leave any opportunity to demonstrate his talent. During his college years, Qadir performed at a wide array of stages, from religious settings to intercollegiate competitions. While in college, Qadir formed his own musical group, which performed at many places, including at out of state shows. Since the arise of Qadir and his party's popularity, Qadir has become a very sought-after artist. Over the period of past 25 years, Qadir has performed at a wide array of stages, from religious settings to corporate events. Qadir has become a very sought-after artist. He has performed live on countless radios and television shows. Qadir has had pleasure of performing at many government cultural events including SAARC. Qadir is not bound by any religion or any specific genre of music. Qadir specializes in singing Qawalis (Sufi devotional music), folk songs, and shabads (religious songs and prayers).Qawali is a preferred form of music by Muslims while shabad kirtan is preferred by Sikhs.
