During the protest, high-ranking officials from the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission — Ambassador Mohammud Drir, Hirut Gebresselassie, and Ayrorit Mohammed — faced strong opposition from the Ethiopian diaspora community. Ethiopia is currently experiencing a severe crisis, with ongoing war and human rights violations in the Amhara region. Reports from Merawi town documented extrajudicial killings and other atrocities. Instead of working toward sustainable peace, Abiy Ahmed’s regime continues to commit repeated war crimes and acts of violence. These actions have sparked outrage among the Ethiopian diaspora in countries such as Sweden, the UK, Germany, the USA, Canada, and South Africa. The central focus of the protest was the ongoing violence and conflict within Ethiopia. Demonstrators carried signs in both English and Amharic reading: “Stop Amhara Genocide!”, “Stop Human Rights Violations in Ethiopia!”, and “Abiy Ahmed Must Go!” protester Ashruka declared, “You can’t hold onto power by killing Tigray, killing Oromo, and killing Amhara people.” Protesters also condemned the use of drone strikes that have killed civilians, including children, and demanded the release of political prisoner Christian Tadele. Among the protestors was Ashruka — a team of six Ethiopian activists, journalists, and human rights defenders — who confronted the Ethiopian delegation.
