The only species of old world monkeys in Japan! The macaques at Monkey Park Iwatayama in northwest Kyoto come down from the forest to say hello to tourists before going back up to their forest homes. You can feed little bags of bananas or peanuts from in the indoor visitor center (so the human-monkey interface stays safe), so this is why you see monkeys holding out their hands to be fed through the screens. It is important to note that these monkeys don't rely on food from humans, as they have plenty of food in the forests.
