Here is a "short" step-by-step process for a composite image that I put together from a recent cosplay photo as well as an old background image that I had. The foreground was taken at a hotel convention and the background was from Arizona. I use basic techniques here that are a "destructive" process. You can modify this to make it less so. There are better methods certainly, but if it works it works. I use Photoshop CS5.1 in this video.
