How to Grow Celery, with the results in August from a first sowing in March

Celery needs more water than most vegetables, and good soil. It grows well in no dig soil with compost mulch, for high fertility and decent moisture retention. No dig and no wooden sides result in fewer slugs. The bed you see had been spinach for eight months until May. We cleared the plants by twisting them out, and then we spread a mulch (surface dressing) of compost. No straw, no hay, no fertilisers. The celery and celeriac were transplanted 12 weeks before this filming. We received 162mm/6.5in rain in that time, and we have watered also by hand.
