R766 - The Picnic Train South Tour - Pt 1 - Transfer Runs - Albury Shuttle Rides

Scenes recorded during the weekend of 27th March - 30th March 2025 Sydney Rail Service brought former Victorian Railways R class hudson steam locomotive R766 down to the border to Albury over the weekend as part of the Picnic Train's south tour. Footages here include, the arrival transfer into Junee. chasing the train down on it's transfer to Albury, 2 days of Albury Steam train shuttles from Albury to Gerogery & back. as well as the transfer run back as far as Wagga Wagga. R766 is the only one of it's class that is running on Standard Gauge to run heritage trains in NSW. This loco was previously owned to Steamrail Victoria as a coal burner. which later on converter to Oil Burner to become a modified super R class for West Coast Railways. until 2004-2006. It was decided to gauge convert it to standard gauge. By 2022-2023 the locomotive has returned to service in the care custody of Sydney Rail Service / Picnic Train. This was R766's first run to Albury since it's gauge conversion. I've covered locations along the way during it's time in Albury. It'll be Wagga Wagga's turn this weekend. with the big trips from Wagga Wagga to Cootamundra on Saturday 5th April 2025. and Wagga Wagga to Uranquinty on Sunday 6th April 2025.
