Indian-origin Australian Labor MP Parwinder Kaur has gone viral for her parliament speech amid anti-immigrant protests. Citing a DNA study, she said Indian genes are integrated into the earliest Aboriginal Australians, with some carrying up to 11% Indian ancestry. Kaur urged an end to debates over “who is more Australian,” saying evidence is clear. She also highlighted that 8.6 million Australians were born overseas and migrants hold nearly half of STEM jobs. By 2050, migration will make the economy 40% larger, she claimed. However, Kaur faced backlash, with critics alleging she suggested Indians are more Australian than Whites. Kaur, a scientist from Punjab, migrated in 2007 and was sworn in on Sikh scripture Gutka Sahib. #parwinderkaur #australianews #indianoriginmp #dnaevidence #aboriginalaustralians #immigrationdebate #viral #toi #toibharat —————————————————————————————————————————— TOI Bharat – Your Window to India And Its Neighbourhood TOI Bharat delivers the latest news, biggest voices, sharpest views and in-depth coverage of India’s political, social and economic landscape.
