Here is the first in the collection of Vintage vs. Reproduction, sewing pattern edition. In this video, I am going to compare a vintage pattern to its modern reproduction by the same company. I have been a vintage pattern seller for 10 years and have always been asked, why I don't like the reproduction patterns done by Simplicity. I knew they used block patterns to adjust the vintage patterns. I knew they looked at only the front covers and guessed on the rest, but now I want to put them to the test. I will be doing this Simplicity 1356 pattern review by laying out Simplicity 8125 (the original vintage pattern from the 1960's it is based on) to see how it compares. I will be using the Bust 36" in both patterns. Will this be another vintage reproduction pattern rant? Or will I sing the praises of Simplicity 1356 in staying true to the original pattern? If the pattern stands up, I will share all the good points, but if the pattern falls short, I will be roasting this reproduction pattern. I am doing this series so that everyone can see which vintage reproduction patterns are worth your time and money, and which belong in the dumpster.
