Visiting Sintra, Pena Palace and the Moorish Castle 🇵🇹

Sintra is a fascinating destination during a trip to Portugal. There are world-class attractions like Pena Palace, the Moorish Castle, and Quinta da Regaleira but also large crowds and long lines. The unique geography makes getting around town difficult. We took an Uber from Lisbon to Pena Palace so we could be there before the gates opened. You can also take a train but you’ll still need to take a taxi from thew Sintra train station to Pena Palace. There is also a bus that runs the circular loop road to the attractions but it can get very crowded and isn’t very reliable. Getting to Pena Palace and purchasing your tickets in advance is critical to minimize the lines. After visiting Pena Palace we visited the nearby Moorish Castle. The Moorish Castle is about a 15 minute walk downhill against traffic on the one way loop road. The views from the Moorish Castle are spectacular. There is a lot of climbing on the steps but you are richly rewarded for the effort. Don’t forget to stop in the pretty town of Sintra where there are many great restaurants.
