The sawmill waste comes from my Woodmizer LT15 sawmill. It comes from milling Douglas fir into lumber. I start with a top lit fire. Mostly because there are some people who find those to be annoying. I create and find a creative way to extinguish the biochar. Biochar is believed to have some amazing soil building qualities. In some cases, biochar does appear to have some soil benefits. but I think some people get a little carried away with the claims about it.  But we are making it anyway, mostly to get rid of these bugs that are killing the Douglas fir trees.
