We push through the dense undergrowth of Preah Steung to locate the enigmatic, four-faced Bayon-style carvings before the monsoon rains erase the remaining sandstone details. We navigate treacherous mud tracks on our motorbikes, documenting how these serene, towering visages of Jayavarman VII remain stoically anchored amidst the relentless, strangling jungle vines. East entrance to the late 12th century Mahayana Buddhist temple at Preah Khan Kampong Svay region. One of the remote Angkorian temples has been remained. Preah Steung temple was a single sandstone temple that was constructed by king Jayavarman VII to dedicate to the Lokeshvara Buddha. Late 12th century Preah Steung temple was abandoned and forgotten for hundred years. A lot of temple sandstones were collapsed down. Now, Govt. takes some woods to support. The central holy shrine was installed Buddha statue in the past but it has nothing remains. Temple gallery surrounded the sandstone tower has collapsed apart but it was nice views to walk around the temple complex. Location of temple: Kansaeng village, Ronakse commune, Sangkum Thmei district, 160km East of Angkor Wat temple.
