🏆 Subscribe: https://bit.ly/49prwh7 Karl Plagge was a German Army officer who defied the Nazi regime to save over 1,250 Jews during the Holocaust. A World War I veteran and engineer, he initially joined the Nazi Party but later rejected its racist ideology. Stationed in Vilnius, Lithuania, he used his position to shield Jewish workers by employing them in his military vehicle repair unit. When the Vilna Ghetto was set for liquidation in 1943, Plagge established HKP 562, a labor camp where he issued false work permits to protect Jewish men, women, and children. In July 1944, as SS death squads prepared to kill the remaining prisoners, Plagge secretly warned them, giving many the chance to hide. Thanks to his courage, over 1,250 Jews were protected, and around 200 survived until Soviet liberation—making him one of the greatest unsung heroes of the Holocaust.
