Weird Symptoms of Celiac Disease | Atypical Clinical Features Celiac disease is a gastrointestinal condition involving autoimmune destruction of the absorptive surface of the small intestine, which is triggered by the gluten breakdown product gliadin. Celiac disease is characterized by hallmark gastrointestinal signs and symptoms including abdominal pain, diarrhea and weight loss. However, particular nutrient deficiencies can also occur in Celiac disease leading to “weird” (atypical) and more rare findings.
