#racingpigeons #peregrinefalcon #goshawk Presenting some birds of prey attacks and the finalist racing pigeons that survived the natural selection this winter flying by the mountains. A few more survived but I selected the best and most healthy ones for the free range stock loft and next winter season. Most of them have the same ancestor, Ambassador, my 20 years old pigeon. First the falcon took a mature son of Ambassador extremely high in the sky, it had a minor respiratory problem I was going to treat but... natural selection doesn't wait. So, the age and experience didn't matter without perfect health, even if there were many very young birds in the flock at that time. In late December I locked most of the youngsters because it was an incredibly hard year with hawk and falcon multiple mixed attacks and 9 youngsters were taken in a short time. Only 5 youngsters went out after this and all of them survived (all of them were from winter survivor parents). The rest were 22 mature birds and until spring 3 were taken, all of them unrelated to the Ambassador. From the 19 surviving mature pigeons, only 4 are unrelated to him.
