The Mindset, the Method and the Partnership – a Deep Dive Into the Creative Partnership. The masterclass was held 18 Sept at Scandic Triangeln in Malmö, as a part of Nordisk Panorama Film Festival 2021. Recording and editing by Gustav Hugo Olsson – Gade18. Founded in 2002 by producer Erik Hemmendorff and director Ruben Östlund, Plattform Produktion has been breaking ground for nearly two decades. With an array of accolades under the company’s belt, including Palme d’Ors, Golden Bears, and numerous jury and audience awards, their short and feature film portfolio is utterly awe-inspiring. We’re delighted that two of the production company’s filmmakers join us for this special masterclass. Axel Danielson and Maximilien Van Aertryck have worked together for years, creatively developing their own style of filmmaking incorporating anthropology, documentary, humour, and pathos. Observations of people engaging in and exploring their environments while the camera, often in stillness, captures their actions is a cornerstone of the duo’s film language. Hear them tell how they find the story, what drives them and how they managed to create a unique voice in film through their various experiences of producing, directing, shooting, and editing. As an addendum to this masterclass, we’ll be screening a selection of Axel and Maximilien’s short film collaborations, including their hugely successful and brilliant short Ten Meter Tower which wonderfully captured the varying emotions people had when confronted at the top of a diving board, and their most recent film Jobs for All – a satirical, questioning short made up of archive footage focussing on employment.
