How to make a quick etrier, aider, sling ladder for short sections of aid with a prussik and a sling. It really takes less than 60 seconds once you know how to do it -- but it it could save you easily ten minutes of time, and quite a bit of effort if you had 10 or 20 aid placements to do on a climb where you do not normally bring etriers. The main thrust is to create an easy step into a higher loop on the etrier while the lower loop is under load with your body weight on it. In some cases, this can mean you only need one etrier to do the short section of aid. In the case of using only one etrier you would alternately using an etrier like this and a Cow's Tail or Daisy Chain on your harness. (hang from the Daisy Chain, and move up the etrier to the next anchor) See my other video on "How to aid up a bolt ladder with no specialized equipment." This etrier, while still low tech and simple is a bit of step up in efficiency than just using shoulder slings to create an etrier. This technique makes it a lot easier to get your foot in the upper loop while you are standing in the lower loop .
