Homepage of BasscoverPete https://basscoverpete.com/ I’ve always loved the album Frampton Comes Alive. And Baby I love your way is one of the nicest songs on this album! It’s got a very musical bassline. I think the bass really responds to the vocals. Listen for instance at bar 6 where the bass fills in the blanks when the vocals stop and the bass plays on the fourth beat of this bar together with the vocals. Also in bar 8 the bass plays a nice lick on the moment the vocals stop. And again in bar 12. And there are a lot of these ‘question answer’ basslicks in this song. Very tasteful in my opinion! A nice detail is in bar 26 where bass plays just a little different lick than the rest of the band. In bar 4 the bass plays exactly what the bad does, but in bar 26 there’s a tasteful variation! I also like the way Stanley Sheldon varies his notes towards the Am7 chord in the Chorus. Listen for instance at the difference between bars 21; 43; 73 and 79. These are minor details, but in my opinion this is the difference between a ‘regular’ bassline and a bassline done by a professional. An ofcourse there are some wonderful other licks. Listen for instance at bar 52-54. Really, really nice what Stanley Sheldon does there!
