Uganda’s opposition party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), has raised alarm over what it terms as intimidation by the government and the army chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba. The concerns follow a raid on the home of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, on Saturday...an incident the party believes is part of a wider crackdown on dissent. NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya said several opposition figures have been arrested or abducted in recent days, fuelling fear and uncertainty within the movement. Bobi Wine’s wife, Barbara Kyagulanyi, said armed men stormed their residence, ransacked rooms and threatened the family, as her husband remains in hiding in the aftermath of disputed elections. Speaking from a hospital bed in Kampala on Saturday, she alleged that the attackers were heavily armed and appeared intoxicated, forcing their way through the gates.
