Road to the Isles railtour. 2nd and 3rd August 1996.

Starting at Preston on Friday night 31455, 37116 and 31163 are seen before 37025 arrived with the railtour which started at Stafford. It was joined by 31255 for the next leg to Carstairs where they were replaced by 31146 and 31166. Departing Carstairs 35 minutes late turned into a 60 minute late arrival at Fort William due to multiple working issues with the locomotives and our planned 75 minute stop became 20 minutes as the tour needed to depart to let the London sleeper into the platform. The sleeper was passed at Spean Bridge with 37428 and 37403 before the 31's swapped round and continued onto Glasgow Central. EW&S liveried 56058 took over for the run to Edinburgh where a refuelled 31146 and 31166 took the tour onto Carlisle. The last clip is of 37710 climbing over the Jamestown Viaduct at Inverkeithing on 14th August with the 6E67 Montrose-Thrislington empy lime train.
