#landmarks #britishhistory #birmingham Welcome back friends! In this week’s video I return to Birmingham’s iconic Back-to-Back Houses, but this time, I am not just exploring the buildings I want to talk about the people who lived there which I always regret not doing during my first video you all enjoyed so much. Millions of working-class families once lived in these cramped, damp, and challenging conditions up and down the UK and in my home town of Birmingham there was more of this type of housing than in any other industrial city, hidden behind one brick thick walls of back-to-back slum housing were real people, your ancestors living their lives. They are my social history heroes. In this follow up to my most watched video, I delve into the personal stories, struggles, and resilience of the men, women, and children who grew up in these homes, including my own family. My Mom and Dad were both born in back-to-back houses in the 1950s, like so many others across the UK. Who were the people behind the walls? What did daily life look like? What did they leave behind? Built in 1830 and still inhabited until 1966, these homes are a living record of Britain's industrial past, class struggles, and community spirit. Join me as I step back in time to bring their voices back to life. You won't be surprised to hear it is one of my favourite places to visit it THE WORLD! 🎟️ You can still visit the Birmingham Back to Backs today, tours are available on the National Trust website, including accessible options. Free to National Trust members, payable if not. Tours must be booked online in advance, they do not accept walk ins. 💬 Please Don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe, I visit a new place every week, and it’s like ticking off my personal history bucket list while taking you with me. #BackToBackHouses #socialhistory #hiddenhistory #britishheritage #birminghamHistory #ukdocumentary #urbanexploration #lifeinthepast #workingclassvoices #nationaltrust #exploremore #culture #architecture #slumHousing #historichomes
