Pogány Induló, born in Szeged as Marcell Szirmai, burst onto the Hungarian music scene in 2022 with his old-school rap tracks. He quickly became one of the most influential figures in Hungarian rap music and a favorite among young audiences. His career started in a dormitory in Szentes, where he met his future creative partner, Ótvar Pestis (Patrik Olasz). The two began freestyle rapping together, and in the dormitory’s computer room, they created their first music tracks—Pogány Induló rapped while Ótvar Pestis handled production. What began as a hobby took off in 2022 when Pogány Induló gained massive success on YouTube with his songs Zártosztály and Gettó Csirke, racking up millions of views. His rapid rise led to a major concert: at just 18 years old, he performed a sold-out live show at the 20,000-seat MVM Dome in March 2024. In April 2024, at only 18, Pogány Induló won a Fonogram Award for his album Megáll Az Idő. A month later, he received the Artisjus Award for Junior Contemporary Music Creators, and in October 2024, his music video for Úgy Hiszem won the Grand Prize at the 8th Hungarian Music Video Festival. According to music critics, few Hungarian artists are as self-aware in developing their sound while also having a clear vision for their career. Interestingly, he has stated that he doesn’t plan to continue his career for more than two or three more years.
