Alexis Littré (1654–1726) was a renowned French physician and anatomist born in Cordes, Tarn-et-Garonne. He studied medicine in Montpellier and Paris, earning his doctorate in 1691. Littré became a member of the Académie des Sciences in 1699 and was known for his meticulous anatomical research, reportedly dissecting over 200 corpses in a single year. Littré made significant contributions to medical science, including the description of "Littré's hernia," a condition involving the protrusion of an intestinal diverticulum. He also identified the mucous urethral glands, now known as "Littré's glands," and proposed the idea of performing a lumbar colostomy for colon obstruction in his 1710 treatise Diverses observations anatomiques. His work influenced many, including notable students like Jean-Louis Petit and Jacques-Bénigne Winslow. Littré's legacy lives on in the medical field, with his discoveries continuing to inform modern practices #Alexis
