From the calm beaches of Sitges to the chaos of an unexpected ant infestation, this leg of our Vanlife Europe adventure was one to remember! With tiny guests hitching a ride in the van, we stopped at L'Aldea for a peaceful walk along the old narrow-gauge railway beside the beautiful Ebro River — perfect for walkers, hikers and cyclists. But things quickly took a turn… Between red wasps (or were they European hornets?) in the van, an invasion of ants in our bedding, drawers, wardrobe and even the dog bowls, plus 34°C heat and Valencia's wild maze of traffic islands and train track signals, this was vanlife at its most real! Armed with malt vinegar, an empty fly spray can, we emptied The Duke like a full car boot sale and got scrubbing. From Cabanas to Almenara, through Pinedo, Mercado in Silla, for poison, and finally Denia, we battled the ants, dodged low bridges, , and tried to keep Scout and Herbie from chasing car park and beach cats.
