In this video I show you how to change the oil on the Land Rover Discovery 3.0 TD6 Lion engines. I discuss the various oil options for those whose Land Rover warranty has expired (those owners who still have warranty should use the 5W-30 Castrol Edge Professional meeting STJLR.03.5005 as recommended by JLR). I will record another video showing you how to remove the bash plates to access the sump, but this video shows the oil extraction method. The TD6 Lion engine is a Ford design and the oil they recommend must meet WSS M2C171-F1; because of the weather up here in the Canada, Ford recommend a 0W-40 in extreme service. The Ford requirement provides more protection for the crank as well as greater wear resistance during cold weather -- accordingly, I have elected to use Mobil I Delvac oil -- though Fuchs, Shell, and Ravenol also provide oils to meet these and other specs (Ravenol also makes an oil which meets STJLR.03.5005 -- for those of you who want to tread the line between technicalities and JLR's warranty)! I also show you how to reset your service light on the D5 as well as things to check for while your engine cover is removed. In addition, I detail a few upcoming videos and provide part numbers for the service. You will need a 32mm socket to remove the oil filter housing; you can suck out the oil via the syphon pipe or drop the oil at the sump (I show the extraction pump I use); and the oil filter you will need is LR013148 -- the air filter is LR011593. I recommend an oil change at 5,000 miles (or close to), and will follow up on this video when I receive my oil analysis back. I have also tweaked the outro -- so keep watching to the end of the video! Feel free to comment below with useful and engaging debate; "It's a pretender not a defender" or "solid axles rule OK" comments will be deleted -- just sayin'.
