Today on our 1997 Ford F150, we'll be installing the Carr Custom-Fit Side Steps, part number CARR124031. First, we'll need to go ahead and set out our steps and hardware. Once we have it organized, we'll begin assembling the bracket to the step. We'll take the bracket, set it over the attachments of the step and then take the long 7/16ths bolt, slide on a flat washer, feed it through the bracket through the step and out the other side of the bracket where we'll secure it with a second flat washer and then a nylon lock nut. We'll go ahead and repeat the same process for the second attachment point here on one side and repeat the same process on the other side. Now with both brackets loosely installed onto the step, we'll go ahead and set it into position. When setting it into position, the ideal location is that the step will be centered with the front edge of the driver's seat. We'll now move around to the inside where the bracket mounts to the rocker panel and check our mounting locations. You'll notice here at the front attachment point, or bracket, it's an uneven section of the rocket panel. For this application, we'll need to move a step back towards the rear of the vehicle. Now that we're in place, using a paint marker, we're going to go ahead and mark the top attachment point for both brackets. If accessible, we'll also mark the center attachment point, so that we can put our brackets back in position after we move the step. Now that we have both brackets marked out, we'll go ahead and take the step down. Remove the brackets from the step. Using our marked attachment points, we'll get the brackets back into their original position. Then we'll go ahead and mark out the bottom or lower attachment point. Once we have it marked, we'll then go ahead and take an 1/8th inch bit and drill out a small pilot hole, making sure that we leave at least 1/8th of an inch metal from the outer edge of the pinch weld. Once we have our 1/8th inch hole drilled, we'll go ahead and open it up to 5/16ths as per the instructions. Now with the hole opened up, we can go ahead and install the short bolt that'll go through the pinch weld and then through the bracket and get secured with a nut. Note, before we put the bolt in position, we'll slide on a flat washer and then feed it through the pinch weld, through the bracket, and secure it with a nut. For this application, the rear attachment point will not need to be drilled at the bottom, as there's already a manufacturer's hole drilled into the pinch weld. We'll reuse that manufacturer's hole. Now with the short bolt in position, we'll go ahead and take the short and long self-threading bolts, screw them through the bracket into the rocker panel, pulling the bracket flush with the inside of the rocker panel. Then we can go ahead and tighten down the bolt. Now with our bracket secured, we're ready to put our step back in to position. We'll go ahead and take the long bolt with the flat washer, feed it through the bracket, through the step, and then back out the other side of the bracket, securing with another flat washer and nylon lock nut. Keep in mind as you do the inner attachment point, the one that has a multi-hole selection, we'll be using this multi-hole selection to level the step. We'll make sure our step is as level as can be, then we'll install the bolt to secure it. Now with the four fasteners in place to secure the step to the bracket, we'll go ahead and tighten them down. With the driver's side complete, we'll go ahead and repeat the same process on the passenger's side. With both sides installed, we're ready to hit the road. That does it for the install of the Carr Custom-Fit Side Steps, part number CARR124031 on our 1997 Ford F150. .
