El día que nací yo (The Day I Was Born) Canción del film "Morena clara" (A.Quintero -- Guillen -- Mostazo) -- Imperio ARGENTINA con acomp. de orquesta, Odeon 1936 NOTE: Imperio ARGENTINA (née Magdalena Nile del Río) (b. 1906 in Buenos Aires, Argentina -- d. 2003 Benalmádena, Málaga) Argentinian singer and movie actress who, although born in Argentina, became a citizen of Spain and won international recognition as a Spanish artist. Del Río performed in Argentina's theaters, where she had a successful career, but her international recognition came when she moved to Spain, in 1924. It was there that she changed her name to Imperio Argentina, as a way to honor her "other country". In Spain, del Río performed in theatres of Madrid, sung on stage and recorded numerous and very popular sides for "Odeon" and "Parlophon". She participated in many movies, also in her later years she often appeared on television and radio. Imperio Argentina obtained Spanish citizenship in 1999. "Morena Clara" was a faithful rendition of the popular Spanish stage play by Antonio Quintero and Pascual Guilleo. It was directed by Argentina's husband Florián Rey who replaced the stage version's Carmen Diaz as the heroine by the equally talented Imperio Argentina. Set in Andalusia, the film details the comic capers of warm-hearted gypsy lass Trini (Argentina), who finds herself in court on a charge of stealing hams. Attracted to the prosecuting attorney (Miguel Ligero), Trini invites herself into the attorney's staid household. Her unbounded energy and good nature spreads to every one in the house -- and, of course, the attorney eventually falls in love with the girl. Lavishly produced, "Morena Clara" was one of the biggest Spanish movie hits of the 1935-36 season.
