// SMoN // FIM Supermoto of Nations // 2017 // Carole (France) 24 October 2017 – In warm and sunny conditions the race day of the 2017 FIM Supermoto of Nations started at the Circuit Carole in Tremblay-en-France. With the sun out early, lots of spectators found their way to the racetrack near Paris and the grandstands alongside were full of Supermoto fans. Circuit Carole is one of the best venues in Europe and all riders felt at home on the spectacular fast track giving the crowd some great shows. For the fourth time in a row it was Team France who took the victory in the FIM Supermoto of Nations in front of their home racetrack. RACE 1 (Riders 1 + Riders 2) In hot and sunny conditions the first race of the day in Carole was for the riders of group one and two. The qualified group 1 riders had to start from the second half of the grid which meant that Team France rider Thomas Chareyre had to start from seventeenth position. At the start it was Team Italy rider Edgardo Borella who took the hole shot into the first tight corner of the racetrack. In second position it was Team Austria rider Andreas Buschberger who was followed by Team GB rider Chris Hogdson. Team Germany rider Markus Class, Austrian rider Manuel Steher and Team Brazil rider Rafael Fonseca. Already in the first few corners the favorites for the victory in this race took over the first positions. French rider Laurent Fath passed a few riders in the off-road section and took first position. Also German rider Markus Class, second in the World Championship this year, was on the charge and passed the riders in front of him making him second in the race, just behind Fath. Behind the top two it was British rider Chris Hodgson who had a good first lap taking third place in front of Team France rider Thomas Chareyre. Chareyre had to come from seventh place at the start but showed to his home crowd that wanted to go for the win. Austrian riders Stehrer and Buschberger were pushed back to fifth and sixth position. In seventh place it was Brazilian rider Rafael Fonseca followed by the young French junior rider Nicolas Cousin. After his good start Italian rider Edgardo Borella had a difficult first lap and was pushed back to ninth place just in front of Belgium rider Sebastian Bouillon. Up front Chareyre didn’t waste any time and in the second lap he passed Hodgson to take third place. The French World- and European champion kept pushing and within two lap he closed the gap towards Class who was still in second place behind Laurent Fath from France. In lap five Charyere managed to pass German rider Class in one of the long fast corners of the racetrack. Class on his turn didn’t let go and stayed close to the Chareyre. After some fast laps of the two, they arrived at the backend of Fath who pushed every drop of speed out of his Honda. After a mistake from Fath, Chareyre and Class managed to pass the young Frenchman who was now in third place. Behind the top three Austrian rider Andreas Buschberger regained his speed and was closing in on Hodgson and in lap seven Buschberger passed Hodgson for fourth position in the race. In the meantime Team Italy rider Edgardo Borella was back in sixth place after passing French rider Cousin and Team Brazil rider Fonseca. In front Chareyre took over first place from Class and soon after his move the Frenchman created a gap to the rest of the field. With a gap of 7.593 seconds Team France rider Thomas Chareyre finished in first place taking valuable point for his country. Team Germany rider Markus Class finished in second place followed by the teammate of Chareyre at Team France, Laurent Fath. Fourth place was for Austrian rider Andreas Buschberger who managed to keep Team Italy rider Edgardo Borella behind him, who passed Team GB rider Chris Hogdson in the last lap of the race. The top seven was completed by Team Czech Republic rider Milan Sitniansky who had a great race from eleventh place. With two more races to go, everything is still open for the victory.
