A Scary Climb High Above Lehigh Gap on the Appalachian Trail

This hike is not for the faint of heart. It's a short but scary hike up to the Lehigh Gap East Overlook on the Appalachian Trail. As you approach the top, it becomes an almost vertical rock scramble for sure. Certainly, a Class 2 scramble. Perhaps a bit of Class 3? Slip and fall and you may very well break something or sustain a serious head injury. All that being said, this is the Appalachian Trail after all, and thousands of people traverse this spot all the time. Bottom line: take your time, plan your holds, three points of contact at all times and you'll be fine. Even with it being only a mile out-and-back, it took about an hour. This is a favorite small hike/big view trail.
